He enlisted as Private in Company D, 6th South Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a hospital in Staunton, VA but died there of his wounds on 31 October 1862.
