He enlisted as Private in Company B (later F), 6th South Carolina Infantry on 10 July 1861 in Summerville, SC.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at Shepherdstown, VA on 8 October 1862.
