Before Sharpsburg

From Bear Bend in Montgomery County, TX, he enlisted there as a Private in Company H, 4th Texas Infantry on 7 May 1861 and was appointed 4th Sergeant by August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was reported missing in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, but had been captured.

The rest of the War

He was sent from Fort Delaware to Aikens Landing, VA on 2 October for exchange. He was then in Richmond hospitals until returned to duty on 11 November. He was 3rd Sergeant by December 1862 and 2nd Sergeant when he was mortally wounded by a gunshot at the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864. He died of wounds in Lynchburg, VA on 5 June 1864.
