He was wounded in the lung in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, probably at Gettysburg, PA, and admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA with a gunshot to his right arm on 30 July 1863. He transferred to the First Georgia Cavalry on 20 August 1863.
