Age 18, he enlisted as Private, Company E, Phillips' Legion Infantry Battalion on 19 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the back in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was furloughed home on 13 October 1862 and probably never returned to duty; half of his shoulder blade had been shot away and his right arm was nearly useless.
After the War
He was a resident of the Confederate Soldier's Home of Georgia in Atlanta at the time of his death in 1917.
