He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds at Boonsboro, MD on 28 September 1862. He was originally buried there near the "Hoffman Barn", but was reinterred in Washington Confederate Cemetery in about 1874.
