He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged 2 October 1862 and was wounded and lost a finger at Chancellorsville, VA in May 1863. He deserted to the enemy near Petersburg, VA on 10 March 1865, took an oath of allegiance, and was "sent North."
