He enlisted as 2nd Corporal, Company L, Phillips' Legion Infantry Battalion on 1 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the neck and captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware and exchanged on 15 December 1862. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant by December 1863 and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
