He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged on 2 October 1862 and was sick into 1863, being sent to an Atlanta hospital on 17 July 1863. He was wounded at Knoxville, TN on 29 November 1863 and listed as a deserter on 14 December 1863. He took the oath of allegiance on 16 January 1864.
