He enlisted as Private, Company M, Phillips' Legion Infantry Battalion, on 28 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was exchanged on 2 October 1862 and returned to duty. He was slightly wounded in May 1864 and was listed as a deserter near Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865. He took an oath of allegiance and was sent to Jeffersonville, IN.
