He enlisted as Private, Company M, Phillips' Legion Infantry Battalion, on 28 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of pneumonia, probably at the Piedmont Institute hospital, in Liberty (now Bedford), VA on 6 June 1864.
After the War
He was originally buried on Piedmont Hill but was reinterred, along with many other soldiers, in a mass grave in Longwood in 1921.
