He enlisted as Private, Company O, Phillips' Legion Infantry Battalion on 6 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged on 2 October 1862 and returned to duty. He was listed on the Confederate Roll of Honor for gallantry in action at Gettysburg, PA: he was reported in hand-to-hand combat for possession of a Federal flag in the Wheatfield on 2 July 1863. He was slightly wounded in the head at Cedar Creek, VA on 19 October 1864 and absent in a Lynchburg, VA hospital by 31 December 1864 with no further military record.
