From York County, he enlisted as Private, Company F (later E), 5th South Carolina Infantry, date not given. He was wounded at Seven Pines, VA about 1 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded again, in action at Boonsboro (Turner's Gap), on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was surrendered at Columbia, SC in 1865.
