Before Sharpsburg
From York County, he enlisted as Private, Company I (later F), 5th South Carolina Infantry and was appointed First Sergeant, dates not given. He was wounded at Seven Pines, VA about 1 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded again, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, probably in December 1862, and was surrendered with his Company at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
