Age 19, he enlisted as Corporal, Company E, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 26 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September and "slightly wounded" at Sharpsburg on 16 September 1862 with no later military record.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds, probably at home in the York District on 10 October 1862.
