He enlisted on 3 April 1862 in Navarro County as a Private in Company I, 4th Texas Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was injured in a railroad accident, his left wrist cut and tendons severed, on 8 March 1864, place not given. He was in hospitals in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and Farmville, VA to 17 June then furloughed for 40 days to Zebulon, GA. He was surrendered and paroled with his Company at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
