A farmer on his father Jacob's farm in Newberry County, he enlisted as Private, Infantry Company H, Holcombe Legion on 7 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a hospital in Richmond, VA and returned to duty. He was killed in action at Fort Stedman near Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865.
