Before Antietam

Age 20, he enlisted as a First Sergeant of Company I, 30th Ohio Infantry on 22 August 1861 and mustered into Federal service with them at Champ Chase, Columbus, OH on 31 August. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 28 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862. Major Hildt later reported:

Lieutenant Wilson, of Company I, was mortally wounded in the neck, and died while borne off.
