Before Antietam

Age 20, he enlisted as a Private in Company I, 30th Ohio Infantry on 22 August 1861 and mustered into Federal service with them at Champ Chase, Columbus, OH on 31 August.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at home in Tuscarawas County, OH on 24 October 1862.
