He enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant, Company E, 15th Louisiana Infantry on 27 May 1861 in New Orleans.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was absent for wounds and then on detached service on Conscript duty in Louisiana having been disabled by his Sharpsburg wound. He was promoted to Captain on 3 May 1864. He was captured near Tangipahoa, LA on 30 November 1864, taken to New Orleans on 19 December, and released at Vicksburg, MS on 15 May 1865.
