Before Sharpsburg
He was a 21 year old laborer from Donaldsonville when he enlisted in Company K, 8th Louisiana Infantry on 19 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.
On the Campaign
He was left behind to tend the wounded and captured on 18 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was assigned to the US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD as a nurse on 23 November, sent to Fort McHenry on the 28th, and released soon after. He was captured 3 May 1863 on "the retreat from Mary's Hills" near Frederickburg, VA. He was held at teh Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC, then at Fort Delaware. He took the oath of allegiance to the United States and was listed as a deserter by his regiment, dates not given.
