Before Sharpsburg

A printer in Alexandria, LA, he enlisted 19 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA, as a Private in Company I, 8th Louisiana Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by gunshot to the ankle and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was briefly in the US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD on 12 and 13 October, then transferred to Ft. McHenry in Baltimore. He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November. He was captured in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 3 May 1863 and held at the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC and at Fort Delaware. He was exchanged at City Point, VA on 23 May. He was captured a third time, at Rappahannock, VA on 7 November 1863 and was held at Point Lookout, MD until exchanged on 19 March 1864. He was captured yet again, at the Wilderness, VA on 13 May 1864 and returned to Point Lookout. He was transferred to Elmira, NY on 15 August 1864 and paroled there on 25 February 1865. He was paroled and released at Jackson, MS on 19 May 1865.
