Before Sharpsburg

He was a 28 year old single plasterer in Vicksburg, MS when he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 8th Louisiana Infantry on 19 June 1861 in New Orleans.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was briefly treated at US Army General Hospital #5 in Fredrick, MD from 10 - 11 October then transferred to Fort McHenry in Baltimore. He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He was absent due to his wound into November 1863. He was captured again, at Fisher's Hill, VA near Srausburg on 20 September 1864. He was held at Harpers Ferry, and Point Lookout, MD until transferred for exchange on 10 February 1865. He was exchanged at Cox's Landing on the James River, VA on 15 February 1865.
