A laborer in Louisiana, he enlisted as Sergeant, Company E, 15th Louisiana Infantry on 27 May 1861 in New Orleans.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was back with his Company in November 1862. He was reduced in rank to Private at his own request on 18 February 1863, but promoted Sergeant again on 1 May. He was captured at Richmond, VA on 3 April 1865 and released on 28 August 1865 after taking the Amnesty Oath.
