Before Sharpsburg

A 21 year old unmarried clerk in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 6th Louisiana Infantry at Camp Moore, LA on 4 June 1861. He had light complexion and hair, blue eyes, and stood 6 feet tall. He was commissioned 2nd Junior Lieutenant on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty in January 1863 and was appointed Adjutant to date from 26 November 1862. He was wounded in action at Winchester, VA on 14 June 1863 and was captured at Rappahannock, VA on 7 November 1863. He was sent to Johnson's Island, OH from the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC on 11 November. He was paroled, sent to Point Lookout, MD on 14 March 1865, and exchanged at Cox's Wharf, VA on 22 March 1865.
