Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as Private, Louisiana Guard Artillery on 8 June 1861 in New Orleans.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He returned to the battery in March 1863. He was captured at Rappahannock, VA on 7 November 1863 and held in Washington, DC and at Point Lookout, MD until he was exchanged on 9 March 1864. He returned to duty and was detached with the battery horses from 25 November 1864 to 15 January 1865.
