Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 19 year old farmer in Homer, LA, he enlisted as Private in Company A, 9th Louisiana Infantry on 7 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a field hospital near Sharpsburg and his arm was amputated. He was admitted briefly to US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD 12 -13 October, then transferred to Fort McHenry in Baltimore for exchange. He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He was listed as absent, wounded for the remainder of the war.
