Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as Private in Company E, 8th Louisiana Infantry on 19 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was sent from Fort McHenry in Baltimore to Fortress Monroe, VA on 27 October 1862 and exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He was captured again, at the Wilderness, VA on 12 May 1864 and held at Point Lookout, MD. He was transferred to the Federal prison at Elmira, NY on 17 August 1864 and paroled there on 25 February 1865 to be exchanged.
