Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as a Private in Company E, 14th Louisiana Infantry on 25 June 1861 in New Orleans.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Staunton, VA to April 1863, then returned to duty. He was wounded again, and captured, at Gettysburg, PA in July. He was treated at US Army hospitals in Baltimore, MD then sent to Point Lookout, MD on 20 August 1863. He was exchanged at City Point, VA on 20 March 1864 and again joined his Company, serving to the end of the war.
