Before Sharpsburg

He was an unmarried 22 year old carpenter in Flat Town, LA when he enlisted on 23 June 1861 in Company F, 8th Louisiana Infantry at Camp Moore, LA. He was captured at Camp Beauregard 9 October 1861 and was in a hospital by the end of the month. He was captured again, at Woodstock, VA on 4 June 1862 and exchanged to return to duty on 5 August 1862 at Aiken's Landing, VA.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was probably treated at a field hospital near Sharpsburg and briefly at US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD from 15-16 October 1862. He was sent to Ft McHenry, then Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. He was exchanged on 10 November 1862 at Aiken's Landing, VA. He was disabled and on furlough at home for the rest of the war.
