An unmarried 25 year old farmer in Houston, LA, he enlisted as Private in Company A, 9th Louisiana Infantry on 7 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

His leg was amputated at a field hospital near Sharpsburg and he was paroled by 27 September. He was transferred to Fort McHenry in Baltimore for exchange and formally exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He was listed as absent, wounded for the remainder of the war.
