An unmarried 30 year old teamster in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private in Company B, 5th Louisiana Infantry on 4 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was back with his Company by November 1862 and captured in action at Rappahannock Station, VA on 7 November 1863. He was held at Point Lookout, MD until exchanged there on 9 March 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
