He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, sent to Fortress Monroe, VA, then exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He was wounded and left behind to be captured at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863. He was in the West's Buildings US Army hospital in Baltimore and sent a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD on 20 August 1863. He was released on 16 April 1864 after taking an oath of allegiance to the United States.
