An unmarried 25 year old clerk in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private, Company H, 7th Louisiana Infantry on 7 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was appointed Color Sergeant, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was home on furlough to at least October 1863 then detailed in the Adjutant General's Office in Richmond, VA. He was discharged from the service, date not given, by the Medical Examining Board.
