Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 23 year old laborer in New Orleans, he enlisted on 7 June 1861 in Company D, 7th Louisiana Infantry. He was commissioned Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 17 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

His arm was amputated. He was exchanged 8 November 1862 at Aiken's Landing, VA, promoted to First Lieutenant, date not given, and detailed as a Conscript Officer in Louisiana to February 1864. He was then assigned to the Camp of Instruction at Mobile, AL, probably for the duration of the war.
