Before Sharpsburg
An unmarried 31 year old carpenter in New Orleans, he enlisted as a Private in Company B, 5th Louisiana Infantry on 10 May 1861 in New Orleans (or 4 June at at Camp Moore, LA).
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was absent recovering from his wound to August 1863, most of that time in Richmond, VA. He was then with his Company until detailed to Staunton, VA in September 1864. He was captured in Virginia and paroled at Lynchburg on 13 April 1865.
