Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 2nd Louisiana Infantry on 20 September 1861 in Monroe.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent recovering from his wound to December 1862, but was on wounded furlough again from May to August 1863, then detailed on hospital duty in Richmond after 3 October. He was back with his Company by January 1864 but was captured in action at the Wilderness, VA on 12 May 1864. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD, then transferred to Elmira, NY on 17 August. He was paroled there on 10 March 1865 and exchanged at Boulware's Wharf on the James River, VA on 15 March 1865. He had been appointed Sergeant, date not given.
