Age 22, he enlisted on 30 July 1862 in Palmyra, and mustered as a Private in Company A, 111th New York Infantry on 20 August.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action by an exploding artillery shell on Bolivar Heights at Harpers Ferry on 14 September 1862. He was the first man of the regiment killed.
