He was a 20 year old farmer on his parent's place at Corsicana, TX when he enlisted in Navarro County as a Private in Company I, 4th Texas Infantry on 17 July 1861. He was appointed 2nd Sergeant on 20 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on recruiting service in February, March, and April 1863 with no later military record in his file. He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his leg, the bone broken, at Chickamauga, GA on 19 September 1863 and he died on the 21st.
