Age 20, he enlisted on 15 October 1861 in Wilton for three years and mustered as Private, Company G, 77th New York Infantry on 23 November.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD, then sent to one in West Philadelphia, PA, where he died of wounds on 19 October.
