Age 21, he enlisted on 25 April 1861 at Amsterdam to serve two years and mustered as Private, Company B, 32nd New York Infantry on 31 May.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds at a hospital in Frederick, MD on 21 November 1862.
