Age 21, he enlisted on 20 May 1861 in Watertown and mustered as First Sergeant, Company I, 35th New York Infantry on 11 June.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was reduced to Private at his own request, date not given, and died of wounds in October 1862.
