Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 17 year old worker on his parents farm in Westfield, Chautauqua County, NY. He enlisted on 9 May 1861 in Buffalo and mustered as Private, Company D, 21st New York Infantry on 20 May.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the hand and abdomen in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, and probably died the same day.
