A 19 year old farm laborer in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, he mustered into service as Private, Company I, 1st Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
