Before Antietam
He mustered into service as Private, Company G, 8th Pennsylvania Reserves on 24 May 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD, on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He reenlisted and transferred to Company A, 191st Pennsylvania Infantry on 15 May 1864 and was "absent" when they mustered out on 28 June 1865.
