Before Antietam
Age 18, he enlisted on 10 July 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company E, 11th Pennsylvania Reserves on 29 July in Washington, DC.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was reinterred from his original burial near the battlefield to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
