Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Athens, TX as a Private in Company K, 4th Texas Infantry on 11 (or 15) July 1861, was appointed 4th Corporal on 12 January 1862, and promoted to 4th Sergeant on 15 June. He was wounded in the arm at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862 and slightly, in the chest, at 2nd Manassas on 29 or 30 August.
On the Campaign
He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He'd made 2nd Sergeant but was reduced to Private again on 1 October 1862. He was re-appointed 4th Sergeant on 1 November and promoted to 3rd Sergeant on 1 February 1863. He was wounded at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863 and afterward in hospitals or on furlough to July 1864. He was then listed as absent without leave through August.
He was retired to the Invalid Corps on 3 (or 6) December 1864 in Richmond, VA and ordered to Montgomery, AL. He signed a parole at Montgomery on 9 June 1865.
