Age 23, he enlisted in Harrisburg on 31 July 1861 and mustered into service as Corporal, Company G, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 August.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862 and died the same day.
