Before Antietam

A 21 year old farmer, he enlisted in Wyattstown, MD and mustered into service as Private, Company A, 13th Pennsylvania Reserves on 21 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to the thigh in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was probably treated at a field hospital near the battlefield, then admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 18 September. He was listed as a deserter at Berlin, MD, but enlisted in the 6th US Cavalry in November 1862.
