A 21 year old farmer in Centre County, he enlisted on 12 September 1861 in Harrisburg, and mustered into service as Private, Company E, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry the same day.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
